A Better Idea:
Preservation Without Degradation
AltadenaWILD believes that a superior use of the 78 acres on Chaney Trail is in support of protecting what should be most valuable to us all – NATURE. AltadenaWILD seeks to create the time and space where local communities and nature organizations can explore alternative uses of the Chaney Trail property. We support concepts that are better aligned with the surrounding environment and society’s changing valuation of the wildland-urban interface, while being respectful of the increased fire dangers found in these areas.
AltadenaWILD envisions a better idea for the northern Altadena foothills, where:
Hikers, bicyclists, dog-walkers and equestrians continue to enjoy established trails.
Park-poor residents and nature-loving visitors have nearby access to local open space.
Wildlands provide a landscape for increased environmental education of underserved communities.
Wildlife thrives and their migration patterns remain undisturbed.
Streams flow freely and the soil continues to absorb and store rainwater -- rather than being hardscaped.
Native plants may be propagated and grown for residential and commercial landscapes.
A community garden could be established – or expanded.
An appropriate 90-year legacy of Nuccio’s Nursery would continue into perpetuity.
We support concepts that are better aligned with the surrounding environment and society’s changing valuation of the wildland-urban interface.
